Want to Buy Some Marlin Steaks?
An angler cannot take a billfish out of the water for a quick picture in costa rica. It is illegal. But he can walk down to the super market and buy a few lbs of marlin for the grill?
WTF

Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
Please, come to Honduras where there are NO regulations and consequently hardly any fish.
Oh, I guess I should mention that some people fish for a living here so it's not just like a bunch of guys killing fish for no reason, but still...

The key to the whole issue of longlining, overfishing, etc. is to cut out the demand, and it starts at the markets and restaurants.

Aren't marlin suppose to be protected from commercial fishing now that Costa Rica joined the Central American Billfish Alliance, or whatever it is called?
I love Costa Rica and will continue to have a home and do business here for a long time, but the implementation of laws and regulations like this that are merely symbolic in nature is a bit retarded.
Swami has a good point when he talks about a demand side solution.

Stop staring at my Avatar.
Biggest user of billfish is the American pet food industry.

Crab mustard is good
Bill, The way I understand it is....The Costa Rica INCOPESCA was making all kinds of new laws against the Longliners. Shutting them down from Quepos-South, No more Live Bait, some other stuff regarding miles and quotas. So the Longliners were like....What about the sportfishermen? You are doing anything to them! So.........No more fish pics. Whatever....If that's what makes them happy. haha...
