My buddy Doug just informed me that a volcano in guatemala just erupted. I didn't think much of it since some of them are continously spewing until I looked on the web and realized this was somewhat serious.
Last night about 2 inches of ash accumulated on the International Airport prompting it to be closed. 1 person has been killed. a CNN news affiliate reported was killed when it was struck by flying debri. 3 kids are also missing according to various reports.
I sure hope all of our friends are OK down there. This is one of the Volcano's we all ohh and ahh about on our way to and from the airport on our trips to guatemala.
I am pretty sure that doug snapped this picture of that volcano on our last trip during the contest givaway trip
That pic was out of the car window on the way to the airport. Those things are huge and ominous (not to mention numerous) I wouldn't want to live in their shadow.
Hope the damage is minimal. The earth doesn't seem happy with us lately
Thankfully the wind was blowing north while the Pacaya was blowing it's top! Lucky for us at the beach but not so lucky for the City. The ash plugged up all the storm drains and tropical storm Agatha flooded the streets. I hear that alot of people are hurting all over Guatemala. I am helping where I can. If anyone else wants to help they can contact me. Beans , Rice and drinkable water are cheap. We can deliver to the hardest hit towns.
On another note- My Guatemalan wife Susy is petrified of tornados. She is ready to hide in the basement at the first sign of a thunderstorm. I have been with her through earthquakes and errupting volcanoes. While I ran circles she watched and seemed amused.
