Old habits die hard especially ones that work. Tell you what, when the shcool bluefins show off OC I'll run one side in click freespool mode and one side locked up and report back.

Awwwwww, now shucks, Bert, y'all be careful, y'hear? I don't know about them other commy non-dropbackers, but I'm a shiverin' in my boots about your experiment! (Shiverrrr), see?
And I'm worried, don'tchaknow? Real worried. I mean, watcha gonna do with all them tooners? 'Ceptin' a'course, them bluefinny ones what goes to school or whatever that grab a bait or lure with their hands and not their mouths and don't never get no hooks in their mouthes and give ya the slip, you can laugh your butt off at our little, growing clan of in-gear tuna and marlin hounds...who don't have a single thing to gain by passing on what we have learned about a place where many fear to tread for some reason Is it a manifistation of that dreaded disease that I call "ABOBS" ("Attitudes Based On Bull Shit") in my books that keeps people from trying something new and relegates them to being the likewise dreaded "Masters of Repitition"? Hmmm, I suppose that it could be. Maybe, I dunno.
Sometimes it's hard to separate ABOBS from the word "tradition", ya know? Either one can really hold a person back from gaining new knowledge sometimes. Ah, but then again, there's comfort in clan numbers, for sure. And if that means starting fires with a couple of pieces of flint, instead of pushing the button on the gas barby, that's okay, I suppose. For some, anyway.
I truly do hope that you try that two-sided thing. And I dearly hope that you don't run into them schooled tunas that have learned to grab food with their hands!
Hey capt Fred. I would invite you to post up your Bait and switch technique here on the circle hook forum. Undoubtly you will be using circle hooks on your pitch baits so it would be appropiate. As for "not enough interest" I would think differently. Post it and they will come!
Thanks to all of you who answered my post. Special thanks to you Capt. Fred Archer for the detailed reasoning behind your answer.
I captain a private boat that primairly targets tuna and [the boss' wifes favorite] mahi. The only tournament we fish is the Beach Haven Invitational, so there in lies the reason for my need for circles.
We will stop in NC for a month on the way home so I hope to give circles in bait/lure combos a good trial, and I will post my results. Any additional tips, suggestions or experences are always welcome for the only thing I am sure of in fishing is that there is more to learn.
Thanks again, Capt John
Capt John,
Shoot me an e-mail, and/or look me up when you get to Beach Haven. I will share what I have learned with the circles, and show you some rigs and rigging ideas. Boat is the ALLURE docked at Spray Beach. poloplyr@comcast.net

I just attended a seminar by Marty (wahoonbox) and Bobby (pitchbait). This was the best money I have ever spent. They showed all types of techniques on rigging baits with circle hooks. I think this summer on the two cockpits that Ill be running there will be all circle hooks in my natural baits. My thought is that a tuna is just gonna crash your bait and the hook will set in the corner of his mouth on its own without any problems.
If you guys get a chance to attend one of Martys classes I highly recommend that you jump at the chance. I look forward to chewing the fat at the tents with Marty and Bobby.
I fished out of Oregon Inlet last Saturday. I made up pin rigs with rubber bands on circle hooks. Went 6 for 6 on yft and 1 for 3 on mahi. No drop back and 5# of drag while trolling! The tuna were all solid hookups as was the one Mahi. As for The other Mahi, one picked up a bait that was dead in the water jumped a few times and let go,while fighting the other escapee. That fish was a good four feet long and was still pulling line of a 50 wide after ten minuets. He pulled the hook two gaff legnths from the boat. The sea witch hit me in the chest so you can see there was a lot of pressure [ 16# at strike] on that fish. Sh#t happens.
I am convinced thet circle hooks work trolling for tuna etc. and are not rockett science. My thanks to Capt Fred and Capt. Carl.
