Although you raise an interesting question, here are my thoughts.
For my 2 cents I would have to say that message boards are not the problem when it comes to depleting of the fish.
Commerical fishermen are not on message boards looking for a fishing tip and it is the commercial fishing that puts such great pressure on the fish populations.
From the recreational anglers POV I can say that I have gotten a call in the morning from a friend fishing in the bay or the mouth of the river and by the time I arrived the word was you should have been here and hour ago.
From the fishing charter POV, I have watched my captain spot dolphin and tuna schooling, given it a good run, then when we were finished, called his buddies on the radio so that they could have a chance too. These guys aren t reading message boards. They don t believe half of what they read here.
That being said, I will admit to having no knowledge of tilefish practices. My experience is in offshore fishing from Florda, throughout the carribean, and the Pacific from Hawaii to Panama.
