that is also true.. but the big whammy i truly believe was the charter/party boats starting to really advertise the tilefish trips..
guys are actually doing strictly tilefish trips.. which makes it like anyone can do it..
i know people who still can not find a tile for the life of them and they try harder and harder every year and come up empty.. but they jump on a charter, check out the scope when they get to the grounds and the whereabouts they are fishing from questions and the map and now they know!!
i think that may be part of the problem atleast IMHO
Bill, as you know most of the guys that are gettin the real time reports are goin a message board to get them. The real networkin that goes on ain't on these boards. So my take is no these boards are not hurtin the fishery !!
Really? And your basis for this information?
My friend is PERSONALLY the guy responsible for this. I even told him before he posted the initial report not to. Him and i had been fishing that area for years and consistently had BFT's in the neighborhood of 100#'s.
And for years we would head out there and it would be just a few boats maybe a dozen or so at most.
Then last year, within 3 days of his report, boom....parking lot of slaughter. Now that is NOT good for that fishery.
Yup - I have had guys like Mark Hoos (marli) or Ronnie Fields give me information before. I would go where they told me and sure as shit - they would be there - slaying them. I would get to watch a great show until I realized I wasn't catching squat. I said screw this - If I am going to fail then I want to fail by myself![]()
It's an "artificial fishery" as well. All those boats dropping bait in that area just draw the fish in overtime. Makes it even worse.
About the tilefish....thats a fishery that ppl DEFINITELY need to keep there mouth shut about. Those are dumb dumb DUMB fish.
I have never seen people post any specific info on them so that's ok.
The internet ruins the fishing way before it ruins the fishery.
It does increase the heat on some sensitive fisheries out there that can't take the pressure. For the most part I think nature is pretty darn resilient, and as long as folks are smart about the specifics about what they share we'll all be just fine.
Sure there will be days when any moron will catch fish from things they've learned online, but in the end, no amount of forum information will make a good fisherman, it takes experience and ability.
One of the first duck hunting sites back in the 90's used to have a term for the internet geniuses....FE's...... the E stands for Expert...you can guess what the F stands for.
The rest of us were just a bunch of FI's.....I for Idiot.
It's amazing how the dynamic really hasn't changed.

I think that the best thing about fishing is being right next to a boat that is haulin them in left and right and watching the 200 other boats trying to figure out why they ain't catching.
I like the internet it helps me decide where not to go. If I see a report of a good bite at the hambone I know damn well where I am not going. Piling in with 200 other boats trolling wwwwwwthfb is not my idea of fun. Over the years I have gathered hundreds of numbers of lumps in the 25 fathom range that hold bait. When the bluefin bite turns on in June/July I just break out the numbers and go lookin. I can tell you this we caught a lot of blufins this year all by our lonesome.
Now the real time sattellite stuff. That's a whole new ball game. If you know how to read it and cross reference it with the chloro and bathy charts it increases your odds considerably in finding them. I think we have taken a huge leap in scientifically pinpointing locations or congregations of fish.
