fake italians call it gravy.. just like it is mozzarella cheese not mudzadel'... it is ricotta cheese not ragut'... and it is prosciutto not braaazoot... lol hahah

I was surprised to walk into a local Cape May restaurant this summer and find Blue Marlin on the menu. I believe it was Pacific.

We are regulars there, often with large groups, and made a very serious point about not ordering it. We also let them know that many of the sportfishermen in the area would be disappointed to see it on the menu and that we would not be back if it was staying. I was polite about it and could tell from their reaction that they had no idea of the value that sportfishermen place on keeping marlin out of the commercial markets, nets and longline gear of the world.

That restaurant no longer sells Blue Marlin

I think this is a great effort and hope it takes hold.

i would be very interested in any stats re billfish killed for human consumption. i guess swordfish would be by far the most commonly caught in this category and sailfish the least common

    marlin on the menu.

guys, this all great but, I see the organizations listed as the group pushing this. I was a member of all them and no longer belong. These organizations are run by a group of board members that are all rich elite people that need something to do with their time. These organizations are doing nothing but spending members money on lobbying that gets us nowhere. Nothing against conservation but the way we(sports-fishing) has gone about it in the past just is not working. this is just one more of those items.

the meat of the problem - marlin on the menu in the united states accounts for the smallest fraction of the commercial harvest around the world. I would guess that more billfish are killed by sports-fishermen in tournaments and die after release than what shows up in the restaurants. The Question we should be asking is why these groups are focusing on such a small section of the commercial harvest and never tell their members that they might be part of the problem. Also why is the IGFA, a body that certifies world records, (killing fish) involved with conservation. The rules of IGFA are not about conservation. they don't even have rules for releasing fish.

Would it not be easier to help countries that are importing billfish into the USA to enforce their own laws about killing bill fish so that would affect more than just the bill fish that enters the USA. That would have an effect on all the bill fish that are exported all over the world.

Why are these groups not calling for an end to all bill fish tournaments that kill fish? why are these groups not calling for a ban on recreational killing of billfish in the pacific USA waters. right now there is no size limit or possession limit on any billfish species in the pacific ocean(federal) Why not??

To me it seems that we as sports-fishermen can do more good in other areas then trying to get marlin off the menu.
