T&T teenager's world record gets official recognition

FIFTEEN-year-old Sean Mendonca of Trinidad and Tobago now officially holds the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA) male junior Atlantic Blue Marlin world record.

This news from the IGFAĀ putsĀ the young TrinidadianĀ in the record books and Trinidad and Tobago on the world map for Blue Marlin fishing.

The recordĀ 890lb fish was caught in the 28th Trinidad and Tobago Game Fishing Association (TTGFA)Ā "Marlin Madness" Tournament in Tobago in April this year.

At the TTGFA's recent annual general meeting at the Trinidad and Tobago Yacht Club in Bayshore, Mendonca was presented with the official IGFA world record certificate by TTGFA president Chris Mouttet, who is also anĀ IGFA representative along with Malcolm Boyack.

Also on hand was TTGFA management committee member and owner of Paul Rods, Paul Wittet, who made a special presentationĀ of a personalised hand-made 80lb rodĀ to Mendonca in the hope that he may break another record in next year's "Marlin Madness" tournament, scheduled for April 29-30 and May 2.

    congrats

Congratulations to Sean Mendonca the angler on the boat Indigo
Over the years there have been some big fish lost in Tobago. Many anglers are under geared for the big fish. But finally some one was able to get one to the scale during a tournament. I know for a fact that during the same tournament another boat lost a blue of similar size on the first day. This fish was caught on the last day within 4 miles of the tournament anchorage.
The tournament is the tobago international game fishing tournament tgft.com
here are some pics of the fish
and i think they broke the banana superstition?!

    Thumbs up

    Cool!

I've fished down Tobago out of Charloteville, lots of fish and lots of potential.

Great food and friendly people too!

I was with Curtis Antoine from Workshopseatours.

A very well run outfit-he does fishing/snorkeling and seabird viewing tours as well.

Very knowledgeable friendly individual-outstanding fisherman-as is his brother whom I also fished with, that's Curtis in the pic.
