I've flown Spirit 4 times now. I've paid as little as $8 each way from NY to FLA and no more than $24/each way.
Some of their email specials are simply amazing. I tell people what I paid to fly to both FLA and Myrtle beach and they all look at me like I'm lying. The key is being flexible. You won't pay that flying the day before Thanksgiving.
I have no problem paying $15 for carry-on baggage. That's the rate you pay after 8/1 if you book online and pay for the booking at the time of booking. Again, fine with me. The $45 is for those morons who try and carry on huge baggage without checking it.
People are insane with what they try and take aboard airplanes. It must drive the Flight Attendents crazy. I know I get annoyed all the time.
So in summary, Spirit Airlines is an Ala carte airline. You pay for everything seperately. I have no problem with that because I know it upfront. I fly around on Spirit cheaper than a Grayhound bus.
I am a capitalist, so I believe the market will determine how good of an idea it is. I travel approx. 2 weeks a month. I agree that the size and volume of carry on bags create chaos during the boarding process. However, as passengers we should be able to deduct $45 back to our credit cards from the airline when our checked bags do not arrive.
I don't care if they charge $100/ bag, I have the choice to fly on thier competetors plane, but..........................................
CONGRESS AND THE GUBMINT HAS NO BUSINESS TO GETTING INVLOVED IN WHAT AIRLINES CAN AND CAN'T CHARGE !!!!!!
couldn't agree more bert. The guy from congressman from NY I think it was that tried to intervene said he did it because he was afraid other airlines would follow and said that Spirit was the first to charge check bagged fees. Well, If they can do it and stay in business then what business is it of the government to stop it.
