Beautiful weather and good action.
Well, we have not had the best luck on the daytime swordfish. We have had some bites, and lost some fish, today we finally had a good day. Me, my father and Prather got loaded up, ready We got a good early start at 9:30 am. Our first drop was at 10:15. We thought we had a bite and we cranked up to find that we had nothing but a 14 lb lead and our bait. It bounced a few times like we had a bite. Oh well. Next drop, we set back up, 2200 ft of line out and while trying to hit bottom again after fishing the bait for 15 min we thought we got snagged, which in the past has been an easy accomplishment for us... Then the snag got light. We cranked with very little weight on the rod until we got to the wind-on. Prather cut the lead off, and thats when the fish popped up on top and got pissed. Burned off a hundred yards of line with 30 lbs of drag on it, circled us and came up on top again. t was right about here when I began jumping around yellin to throw the dart. He was a nice one. We got the leader and Prather threw the poon and connected on him straight down. I hopped down and got him in the head and me and P pulled him in. He measured out at 78.5 in. LJFL and had a 50 " girth. We guess him at 250. We iceed him down on deck, and decided to make another drop. Re bait and hit bottom and the belly strip gets hammered in like 2 minutes. Fish was really pullin hard, and running east. Fight it about halfway up and end up pullin the hook. Run south again and drop and get a bite after only like 10 minutes of fishing. Rod bounces around a while and finally we came tight. This fish fought us hard the whole way up with 25 lbs or so of drag and it kept stopping the reel dead. Get him on the wind on and he begins jumping. Geet the lead off and fish runs off a little and get him back on the leader and P sticks him with the poon. A nice chubby 55"er. Pointed her for the barn and we were tied up at 330. It was flat calm and we finally got a nice sword in the daytime. It was great. To do it with my Father, made it even better. I will download some photos and get them up. So, one 250?? lb'er and a 100lber. Not bad for a few hours of fishing!
