sailfish?

when do the Sails start to show up within 15-20 miles off the beach in N.C Atlantic Beach/Emerald Isle areas

I got lucky last year and caught one off my skiff and I would like to target them this year

what baits do you think are best

Thanks, Capt Dan

Best Catch: Can't name just one...they're all great!

It won't be long now...the water is getting really warm inshore. After July 4th they should start to show up around the shallower structure that is holding bait. Northwest Places is always a good place to give it a go...TLD's with naked dinks or seawitches do the trick if you can keep the snake kings off em. I would also recomend pulling a small dredge

Off of Wrightsville Beach, you can count on them the end of the first week of July, this year they showed up a month early and some were caught the first week of June, right now there is a good showing of them and I am hearing about 1 or 2 being caught each day you can get out...

When only targeting sail dogs stick with naked baits no pins. Split bill and skipping dinks are the ticket. And if you really want to spice up your spread, buy a strip teaser dredge.

Well out of OI on Saturday we had a double header on sails fishing on a grass line. We were a ways out though around the 100 fathom line if not overboard some. But ya i agree with what has been said about the naked and stuff. we had them on a black and purple and one of those miniature light blue and white islanders.
