    Report from Brazil

Here is a report from Captain Shawn Wallace from Brazil

The Blue Marlin fishing has stayed good all month here on the Royal Charlotte Bank Brasil. The weather has been a bit erratic with wind from north to south and mostly calm seas. There was some rain but this passes very quickly. A good southerly current pushing onto the bank with that Deep Blue Water that has been 29 to 30 C, everyday. Bloody beautiful.

On the 20th February Charles Holloway was back and in for a great weekend; Saturday Charles didn`t have to wait long for a bite. A marlin around 300 lb attracted the long lure but did not come tight; the marlin came up on the 50 and attached it several time but would not stay hooked. Soon after that a nice marlin came up on the large lure and a perfect bite close to the boat, the fish went down and fort hard with the drag pushed up, Charles had a job getting the fish to the boat, 25 minutes later he released the marlin, a nice 500 lb. Before lunch another marlin attacked the long lure, it run 50 meters of line off and spat the lure, the fish was around 500 lb. At 1.30pm the long lure had another aggressive attack and Charles was hooked up again, the marlin made some great jumps and small runs, ! Charles had her released in 20 minutes, second biggest at 700 lb.

Sunday conditions looking good once again, we raised 3 marlin, they all made very aggressive attacks on different lures, but none would stay hooked, all the marlin were around 400 lb. That’s fishing: heroes to zeros in a day. We did see some large yellow fin tuna, chasing small bonitos on the surface, not a normal site for this time of the year, but a welcome one, big bait big fish. The few we saw were around 100 lb.

Once again the Royal Charlotte Bank is living up to its reputation as a hot Large Atlantic Blue Marlin Fishing Ground. Get some friends together, come enjoy our playground and fill your fishing fantasies.

    Cheers,
    Capt Shawn Wallace

If Jer were to get a day off to go Marlin fishing he had better not do stand up or he might go flying over the transom.

I absolutely loved brazil but it is just so damn far away. Once you think you can't go any further you hop in a van and drive for 2.5 hours. This fishing can be incredible. We raised as many a 5 big blues one day. I want to go back. maybe next year. My Buddy Brett Jaimison is down there fishing with shawn as a mate. Hope he is having a great time.

    Bill,

We have been looking at going to Brazil and I was wondering what the sea conditions are like the end of January or first of February. We have been spoiled with calm seas in central america since we have to fish rough stuff so much here.

The seas tend to be on the calmer side that time of the year on the royal charlotte bank. Have not had too many rough days there. November I think can be a little rougher. The bites are not as numerous traditionally in late jan but the fish are bigger. It is almost exclusively big fish plug fishing at 10-13knots. can be boring but the payoff is good.

one year we had great luck with the meat fish with huge dolphin and wahoos as well as a big yellowfin but that year we were skunked on the blues until one day when we caught 2 one 600 and one 250ish.

Finally spoke to Brett for a short while today. He said the fishing went off in Feb. They only got to fish twelve days in feb but had multiple shots on just about everyday. Highlighted by a 700 and 650 and a bunch between 300 and 500. He said the bar was not a problem at all this year as they didn't hit once and didn't lose a single day to boat issues. those were two of the problems I experienced on another boat down there.

He also said he is excited to go back next jan/feb. I look forward to going back as well. I think he may have talked me into it.

live bait. the first time we went down we caught some small yellowfins. We kept them alive in our tuna tubes and would deploy them when we would raise a fish to the lures but not get bit. We would get bit right away on the live tunas but if we threw a dead tuna out it would go untouched. Other then that no. At least that is the experience I had with Shawn.
