Quantity Vs. Quality
O.k. Just want to get some feedback. This past December I went to Costa Rica for four days of fishing. This was going to be my first trip to fish in Pacific waters. I was totally stoked to get to go and try some circle hook fishing for the first time. I spent hours and hours in the garage preparing teasers, lures, circle hook rigs, wind-ons, etc. I must admit that I had visions of seeing 10 to 12+ sails per day and hoped to catch my first black or striped marlin.
When I got there, the bite wasn't happening. The first 2 days we fished, all we caught were some Mahi. Finally, after getting some local knowledge, we found where the "bite" was, and went 2 for 2 on the sails. I have spent thousands of days on the ocean, but this was one of my favorites.
I can't begin to describe how awesome it was to finally get my first Pacific sail and help a long time friend do the same. We caught one sail on a lure and the other we got to bait and switch. I'll never forget watching that sail come to the teaser and watching my buddy pull it away and see him switch to my bally. It was my first time hooking a billfish on a circle hook and it was picture perfect. We rode home that evening without saying a word, just big smiles on our faces.
It wasn't the quantity of billfish that I had expected, but the quality of the experience made up for it exponentially.
What I want to hear from everybody else are their tales of those special days on the ocean. Where everything just comes together and you have "one of those days".

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I cant say that I pick one special trip. I have a few small kids that have caught there first sail or white marlin and that to me is a pretty great feeling to see how excited they are. I aslo like charter fishing cause often you are taking people to experience somthing that they normally wouldnt be able to do on there own.
