Hey Bill, Can't wait to see your report. How were Juan, Sammy and Hector? Jody does run a first class resort.

Not sure I met Sammy - I think you mean sergio. Those guys took care of everything. I don't think I ever saw sergio sleep. Oops, I guess that means we didn't sleep either huh!
The panga trip up and down the river was definetly a highlight. Marcial is a hell of a captain.
Great pictures Bill---I really don't know how you get these shots! I haven't got the knack with the camera.
anyways--many answers to your question for me. Depends on the anglers, crew (how many), etc....I was fishing here with teasers, baits & pitchbaits. Remember, I am on a small boat, without a mate. I COULD NOT GET AN ANGLER TO PUT A PITCHBAIT IN THE WATER. I know that most on this board are more avid fishermen & would be more keenly aware of the spread, fish behind teasers, would readily drop a pitchbait back, etc....but I could not get someone to do it. We discuss what to do when I say "Put a bait in the water", but it would not happen. So, I switched over to long riggers, teasers, then flatlines in front of the teaser. I see a teaser fish, I pull the teaser & hopefully the fish switches. I decrease my chances on the second fish coming in with the first on the teaser, but I have been getting more connections on those fish (coming in on the Squidnation squid chains--for real, been good to me).
If I had a mate or 2, or fishier anglers, or a few with ears, or something, I would prefer a pitch bait, but I would still drag my teasers behind the flat. Dropping the pitchbait gets me another bait back, even if the teaser fish takes the flat, might get a shot at the second fish (still unseen even) with the pitchbait.
Awesome pics bill.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge...
IMO the clear answer for me is to always have the pitch bait ready. I can't count the times a Saildog or White has charged the teaser and I crank up the flat line only to have the fish hit my bait before I get a chance to disengage the reel and then he's gone (at least on that rod).
Realistic Problem is (at least when just fun fishing) to keep a fresh pitch bait ready.
Always seems to be the same scenario: fishing is slow in the morning and tapered off from there, hotter than hell, 1:00 pm and he comes up like a banshee on the teaser--- been too lazy since about 11:00 to keep the pitch bait fresh, locked and loaded.![]()
