Pics - Marlin fishing report - Fightnlady 5/13

Rhodekill, buzz, bigfishhooker and I went made the trek down to Morehead city to spend a day with our good friend Capt Shane on the Fightnlady. I think we also had a mate on the boat but I'm not quite sure. All kidding aside brad is a blast to fish with and can dish out as well as any mate I have fished with. The plan was to marlin fish. We had two guys on the boat that have never caught a billfish. But shane said the gaffer fishing has been off the hook so I told him we could give 45 minutes and we only wanted 8 fish so we could each take home 2 a piece. Well it didn't take long. We probably had eight fish in the baits on the first pass but I think we only caught one or two.

Well we quickly got five gaffers in the boat and decided to pick up and head to the deep and start marlin fishing. We figured we might run over a couple more gaffers while billfishing. Well we got the spread set and it wasn't 5 minutes when the bridge pole started screaming. We quickly got buzz in the chair and since we thought it may be a marlin. fish made a couple jumps way back. Angler was on top of his game and Shane had the fish behind the boat in a few minutes. Little guy gave us a nice show at the boat.

Thanks to Chadd for taking some great shots of the marlin with my camara.
We caught a few more gaffers as the day wore on but our next billfish never showed. At the end of the day we had a burner pile on and we all started playing the guessing game as to what it was. Shane and I said tuna but when he finally showed it was a stud wahoo.

Unfortunetly all we get to see of that fish is the picture above. Fish came unbuttoned before we could get the gaff in em. I asked shane whats up with the lack of effort in trying to get the wahoo in the boat and he looked at me deadpan and said. You asked for 8 mahi and a marlin. That's what I got you. You didn't say nuthin about no wahoo I guess I will have to broaden my request next trip. Thanks again shane and Brad for a great day on the water. We really enjoyed our day and look forward to returning this fall. If anybody wants a great day on the water in MHC give shane a call. Comfortable boat, great fishing and good company and if you pay a little extra you may even get a few minutes with jasmine.

Bill,

Glad you guys were successful on the marlin and mahi bite, too bad about the lost wahoo at the boat. Been reading posts about Shane for several years now on another website, sounds like a great guy to fish with. Some great marlin jump photos again as always.

Posted a report on your wall re: my fishing trip with Jody and Susie, had a blast. Waiting for Jody to post the pictures.

Bill thanks for a great trip and some great photos! This crowd is a trip to fish with to say the least. As for the wahoo, well what can I say, the damn thing just pulled the hook. It sucks when it happens but it sucks even more when you have to listen to that crowd for the next 5 hours!

Bill,
Is that White Boy Lassoed with the hook around its bill, or perhaps hooked in the bill?
Nice job guys.

Nice job guys.
I think he was barely hooked in the bill glenn. He gave a couple little jumps on the leader and then pulled free so I don't think the hook was all the way through

You left out crack galore

Bill...Appreciate you setting up that trip and good to meet Rhodekill and Buzz. We did miss a nice wahoo but oh well...Brad was a good sport about it.

You did leave out the part on Buzz's white marlin fight that I feel worth mentioning and since you deleted the picture on your camera, you almost got off the hook.

When the white made one of the last runs as it came boatside, I hit the shutter button and got some great leaping shots....as I panned across the transom still clicking away, there was the biggest crack shot with Bill's pants about knee high as he worked the leader. He made sure it got deleted off the camera on the way back.

Rhodekill...make sure you get him back for that one.

Tight lines and let's talk Ocean City, Venezuela and wherever else you got booked!
