Thanks to everyone for the tips. I have some things to try now. I will be trying these really soon as I like things to work as smooth as possible....Mark![]()

Offshore - We have been using a one inch rounded brass ring on our main line to reduce the chaffing. It clips into the blacks and allows us to adjust the lure distance. works well for us.
Offshore - I got them at Whalebone, but you can probably find them cheaper at Ace or another hardware store around there..
I like #32 rubber bands because you always know what you will get, screw down the clip's adjuster to the max so the band breaks before the clip opens.
32's are easier to work with than 64's and when done right they will hold even the largest lure in the worst seas. I like to plait the band around the V formed by the line coming from the rod and out to the lure, this makes sure there is no slip and also never hangs on the line after it breaks.
This is also a useful way to do it if you fish many different and often unfamiliar boats again because you always know what you are going to get on the strike. Works on tag lines too.
Credit goes to Walker Holcomb for schooling me on this.
