With S 20, or even 15 and 3 to 5 foot, I need to have them in the boat by 10 to make a 7 oclock scale coming from 100 miles to the north.

Honestly people- is the Lindenkohl canyon really somewhere you fish out of OCMD?

A lot of people seem to be NJ bound here lately.

We are still looking for 2 different slots for the OC Tuna Tournament. 2 guys just bailed out due to a tragic accident from a friend of two of our anglers.

$1,600 per man for two days of fishing. Includes entry fees, fuel, baits, and full tournament tackle. Just bring your food and drinks!

Boat is Lucky Duck II out of Sunset Marina. 37' Ocean Billfish, 3 years old and tournament rigged. Very seasoned crew with a great captain and 2 mates. Fishing days will most likely be Sat and Sun.

Let me know if anyone is interested ASAP, as registration is this eve.

    Thanks,

    Matt Mag

This is one of my favorite tourn's. We had a good showing last yr. But with the location of the fish, the size of my boat and the potential conditions, I think the odds are to stacked against us and I won't put the crew or my boat in that type of senerio.
If the fish were out front, things would be a bit different..

Lets assume an average speed of 20 to 25 knots for boats in good conditions. You woul dhave to leave at 2:30 to 3 am to make start time, and run at cruise in the dark. Neither safe nor smart. BUT, if you have a 30 to 40 knot rig, you are leaving at4, and only have one hour in the dark. Fast forawrd to the end of the day. 100 miles to go at 3 oclock- tough for the "average" boat to get home in good conditions.

Now lets look at this weekend. 20 or more SW all three days in the offshore report. With the lion's share of the yft being 90 plus miles away (no matter what locations you may read- these fish are coming from an assload of miles away) and that 90 plus miles being in a northerly direction- Most boats don't have a chance. At least not if they fish past noon and want to get home in time for the scales.

I have been asked if i would be in favor of limiting the distance in the Club tournaments to 75. I would, but i feel like the committee as a whole would not. It would definitely make a difference in the count during the tourneys- this weekend only one white was caught less than 80 miles away.

BUT this brings up a whole new point. If the 7 or 8 boats that fished 90 miles away joined us in the "local" canyons- what would have been caught??
Lets not forget Hank Manley who changed the course of tournament limits. One of the greatest most competitive fisherman who's ability to run far and fast well before the rest of us made this all happen.

After much stress and deliberation, for many of the same reasons as Purple Cedar, the last call crew is not entering the tuna tourney this year. We are gonna go fishing out front and see how we would have faired....

Hopefully things pick up, entries were slow coming when I left OCFC.

things did pick up a little after i left- apparently there are 68 boats in the tourney. This number is quite a bit down from last year, but i am sure OCFC will still put on a very good show.

Best of luck to all those who entered.
