    Mullet Wires?

What is the difference if you rig a dredge mullet with the pre twisted pin rig wire with a 3 oz. weight Vs. a wire leash that you twist each mullet with? I know what each system is, i just want to know if one is better than the other.

I prefer to twist the wire each time. One because sometime I dress the mullets up alittle and two I like to sew each mullet and I sew it so the floss is in the loop to hold the mullet on better. I believe the pre twisted ones work great for a fun fishing day with a naked mullet dredge.

I prefer the keel rig. I twisted and sewed each one for a long time. And you would always have one that wanted roll on is side. Not with the keel rig it doesn't allow the mullet but to do one thing and that is swim. But i floss mine on the keel rig for faster derigging.

    Dave,

Do you ever skirt your dredge baits? It seems that most guys are slipping ilanders over their mullets, which might make it harder with the keel rig, right? Also, does the bait size matter with the keel rig? I think the standard dredge mullet is 9-10 inches, but some guys are running monsters!

I might have skirted them before. And if i use a monster mullet i go with a 4oz lead. For the most part i use a 10-12" mullet.

The zip tie thing I never liked because one its to easy, and two you have that plastic piece hanging off the mullet somewhere when you cut the tag end, three for me the floss is cheaper and faster.I also like the floss to go across the eyes to kinda hold them in for a while. The floss goes behind the pec fin the hold the body to the head in case one slips by with out being picked off . If they get one they are gone in my opnion. Notice those mullet are wedged and deboned not split tailed.
