In the early 80's 4 yellowfins was a good day for us. But then people started chunking and dialing in the troll bite and boats were getting 20 yellowfins per trip. That lasted for many years. But somedays we would have to troll for hours upon hours and nail them in the bottom of the 9th. Today people ***** about the lack of fish, bail on the effort, and go "fill the box" or "bend the rod". Nothing wrong with that at all but I can recall more then a few trips that were saved by a tuna blitz that lasted two passses. That aint gonna happen if you give up on the intended target.
As for eating billfish - i didn't get this why by being selective about what I eat. Although I have never eatin sailfish - I have eatin white and blue marlin and both are delicious. If one were happen to be badly injured and it was my call that bugger would be on the grill. Both Nico and Jen loved the marlin I brought home during the WMO and said we should kill one a year for the table. I still don't think I could but they are delicious.
As for bailing dolphins or casting to triple tails - Not on this trip brother. I love doing both but We really want to see a billfish on this trip and that usually requires having your baits doing their thing for the max amount of time allowed to get those few precious shots.
BTW - the grouper fishing in guatemala was good. I will post a couple of pics in another post.
