Not sure there is another fishery than can produce this many big blues. Just incredible.

Lets hope for another 1996 year.

If OI and Hatteras killed all their blues over the last two weeks, the numbers would be staggering !....Bob

Not sure what you mean. Are you saying the guys in madeira are killing all their blues? I don't really think that is the case. I they they are being released and these weights are estimates.

NC is having an incredible two weeks as is Venezuela. Which makes me ask the same question I posted last year. These places are thousands of miles apart but it seems something triggered the bite at the same time for three locations. Can someone splain please?

Full moon was may 27th. We fished the 28th and saw 2, caught 1 along with a ton of other blues caught by the OI fleet. Seemed like it turned on the 26th and continued through the weekend. Been slower the last couple of days...but who knows.

A-salt-weapon caught 3 blues, 1 white on Saturday! That's world class.

thats an incredible day. Last year during the WMO I think 5 big blues one being a grander were raised within a 2 hr span and all within 5 miles of each other. Something triggers that.

I remember one day last year where radio reception was good enough to hear the carolina fleet. it was slow until about 11:00am then someone called in from the baltimore and said they just released a white. as he was talking we released a double header and also heard Canyon Express in Va, beach raise a double. 5 minutes after that the carolina fleet starts yapping about release this and release that and we kept busy for an hour seeing 6 I think. then just as quickly as it started, it ended. I see this time and again and understand that when its lunchtime its usually lunchtime for the whole crowd. but these incidents cannot be coincidence.

I'd be interested to know when the Hatris fleet caught theirs last Friday. If you were one of the 10 boats in this oi bite on friday between lunch and 3:30, then you were seeing fish. It seemed like all were a smaller classmostly but the fish raised, hooked, tailers being reported by just these boats was pretty incredible. At one point Bull, and two other boats were Lined up backing down on blue ones... Wish my camera had a better zoom for that shot. Bull already had one in the cockpit the came up dead!

Like I said in my report, one of the captains said "you know it's a good bte when boats are tripping up on each other because theyhave blue ones stretched out."

Definitely a fun day on the water

Bill.....the way it was reported sounded like they were weighed fish...not that there is anything wrong with that in my opinion....but I fished OI last weekend and the Blues were snapping..right before and during the full moon period...Sunday we fished the 650 area and out in the deep there was a finger of Gulf stream water that was holding quite a few...sounth of the 400 line and deep was another hot spot...alot of blue ones seen/caught last week or so out of there...Bob

Madeira is probably one of the most release focused fisheries you have ever seen. They see so many big blues, anything under 1,000 is not a big deal. Plenty over the mark released as well.

As to the comparison to NC, sorry no comparison. Madeira has 3-5 boats out a day, not 30-50. Likewise, any fish over 500 in NC and that is a story.

NC is a GREAT fishery, but Madeira is special.
