    Leader to Circle Hook connection?

OK...I've seen a dozen discussions on how to rig a ballyhoo or spanish with circle hook, but I can find very little on how to connect your leader to a circle hook.

What are you guys doing for Blue's?

    Thanks,
    PM

thats a good question. Alot of guys are crimping their hooks on to their leaders saying it gives the hook a little flexibility to swing around to the corner of the fishes mouth allowing it to set. Other guys are saying snell the hook makes it a little stiffer and enables the hook direction to stay stiff enough when the hook reaches the corner. Both are by preference and your confidence in snelling a hook.

that question is going to bring some serious responses from some of the pros on the board! myself i am not really keen on them but i know when i chunk overnight i like to have a small loop, when fished down in Cabo they used some sort of strange loop knot and had a loop on our circles that we used for live bait..

I was considering trying the ringed super mutus but not sure about it..

I would say it has to do like madgaffer said, your preference and you ability to snell a hook.

I dont know about most but i am not going to be snelling like was said above 400lb leader or so for a blue so i would guess a crimp would have to work. lol

But then again a lot of guys are crimping them and putting them ahead of the lures now adays so i could assume it would be ok to just crimp it!

I am going to be doing a lot of work with circles this year as i have a lot to learn on them so i will trial and error and when i finally get the boats ready to run offshore i will advise on how things go throughout the season!!

    Thanks for the responses guys.

You know, as a weekend warrior I just don't have enough time to do the proper trial and error to figure out the absolute best way.

But then again...I'm not looking for the absolute best way, just a way that's good enough to have confidence in it.

Basdd on the above responses I may just snell my 300lb leaders and crimp my 400lb leaders. In a year or two, if I notice a difference, then I'll adopt one method exclusively.
