Isla Mujeres - Things starting to pick up, and also the Island Time Tournament

Sailfish showing up in Isla, John R on the Sea Mistress caught 14 in 4 hours - just reported. There is a really good charity sailfish tournament in Isla Mujeres in Mid Feb, 16th - 19th, the Island Time Tournament, plenty of great boats down there this year from NC and other places, not to mention the good local captains.

What an incredible place to fish and a nice Island. The locals are really nice, just a ferry ride from Cancun.

Some footage from last years tourney !!

    Isla

John was running the boat with friends. Keith and Mark are not there at this time to my knowledge. I imagine those guys may get over there at some point.

    Isla Report

Just returned from Isla - 4 days fishing on Qualifier - awesome fishing, tons of fish, loads of bites; birds, trolling, light tackle - take your pick. Ended with 112 between 2 of us, some days numbers didn't really matter you can get as many as you want. Fin and Chris are tagging every fish they can and we were probably 40% on tagging them. I would estimate we were about 10-15% on fish seen to chances - (fish are not real aggressive); 40-50% on chances to hookups and probably 75%-80% on hookups to caught fish - lots of 3s and 4s were we caught 1 or 2.

Thats an incredible fishery. Love the bites inbetween the birds on the teasers. love seeing the fish lumber under the birds. On the important stuff. where'd ya eat. rolandis, ballyhoos give us some menu items. love the food there. fish tacos at that joint on the corner of the noth end of the main drag. can't remember the name. They have the upstairs outside dining.
