WELL IF THIS IS THE RULE THEN THE RULE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED....PERIOD
30 FT IS 30 FT...SO IMO IF YOU USE A 18 FT LEADER THEN YOU SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO UTILIZE LEGALLY THE OTHER 12 FT...
IGFA...BAHHHH
THERE NEEDS TO BE A FEW OTHER SO CALLED "RULES" ORAGANIZATIONS THAT TOURNMENTS CAN BE CALLED UPON RATHER THAN ONE MONOPOLY.
doesnt matter if its 30 ,12,19 ft leader...its your choice what length you use you can use the full length as specified by igfa or what ever length you are comfortable with
BUT if anyone other than the angler touches the mainline it is a dq'd fish dosnt matter if its the single main line or double close to the leader
DQ'D
"Your saying that if one ties a hook directly to the main line then he is not allowed to leader the fish...That doesn't make much sense to me. There is no interpretation of this in the rules, but the rules I posted are right. I copied and pasted them right right from the IGFA."
Well in actuality, you could touch the hook and only the hook itself as that becomes the leader..if you tie to the mainline to the hook directly...the hook becomes the leader
actually, if they allow a leader and a double line, not using that advantage seems wasted, yet im sure some people prefer a direct connect, certainly limits the handling of a fish by doing so.
I really don't care..good to know and a refresh of the rules for all.

We go to about six inches short of the limit using wind on in conjuction with a section of regular leader. In our case its about 20' of wind on and 9' of "lure leader". The last thing I want on a boat I run is to call my deck hands mom and tell her got wrapped up in 30 feet of leader and the fish took off with him in tow.
Though we are allowed up to ten more feet of double line in addition to that (Max combined shall not exceed 40 feet) we usually only use a short one of a couple feet. Since we cant touch the double or main line I don't want a lot of it. Also seems easier to do loop to loop if we have it short.
Fish is DQd.
