60 Contenders at Hemingway Marlin Tournament

The arrival of France, defending champion, rose the number of contenders at the 60th Ernest Hemingway Marlin Fishing Tournament, one the world''s oldest such events.

Among the outstanding guests and organizers are Jose Miguel Diaz Escrich, president of the Marlin Group and Comodore of Cuba's Hemingway International Nautic Club, and James H. Meredith, president of the Hemingway Society and Foundation.

The competition follows the International Game Fishing Federation (IGFA) system of marking and releasing the catch and the winners ate the top scoring team, the first catch and the largest marlin.

The Tourism Ministry (MINTUR) release reminds that the event closing May 29, also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the May 15, 1961 meeting between US writer Ernest Hemingway and Cuban President Fidel Castro at the Marina.
