help on the basic marlin spread

I have mostly targeted the meatfish in the past dragging sea witches and spreader bars. All bill fish hook ups have been blind hook ups.

I would like to put together a basic canyon bill fish spread. something like naked dinks and a maybe a couple big lures for a blue one.

    I have a couple questions:
what size leader on a dink rig. and what size j hook
Where are certain baits located in the spread to be most effective.
What speeds for most natural baits.

I have an assortment of tlds that I would like to put into use, and My boat is a single diesel

meatfishing we troll about 800 rpms 5.5kts

    Thanks
    Taylor

Where are you fishing out of?

Off OC our basic white marlin spread is 3 TLD 25s and 1 TLD 50 from the cockpit and 2 teasers and a 20# class spinner from the bridge.

Both flat lines are naked dink ballyhoos on the TLD25s clipped low and fished about 30feet back. The left long rigger is a TLD25 with a dink ballyhoo with either a pink or green skirt (rubber octapus skirt, not a seawitch). Right short rigger is a horse bally/Islander combo on the 50.

Left teaser is a dredge, Right teaser is a pink squidnation chain with an Islander/Horse combo chaser. Bridge pole is a naked dink.

On our boat the circle rigged hoos swim best between 4 1/2 and 5 knots. The speed is all about how well the baits swim IMO.

    thanks,

I fish up and down the line from oregon inlet to OC. This year I would like to get in on the Va beach bite if it comes back around.
