Juvinile striped marlin............... Were they caught in the Pacific?

Refer to the PV longbill spearfish thread posted by Josh Temple sometime this past year.

How does one rule out baby Blue Marlin? Is there a distinguishing characteristic in the photo that disproves baby Blue Marlin. Or even distinguish a stripey from a rat blue at such a small size.
    Perhaps someone can clarify.

Look like sails or spears me but I guess their dorsal could develop into a marlin fin.

Looks like an awful lot of dorsal fin....possibly small sails....cool fish either way, one of these days I will catch my first bill fish and go for a swim dockside.

Sails that size have fully developed dorsal fins so and are unmistakeable. My guess is spears.

They were ID'd by a fish expert in the latest australian sportfishing mag as Stripeys.
