Fiji or Bora Bora/Tahiti?

Getting married in Aug 2012 with the honeymoon right after. Will be going to one of these two locations. Obviously, I want to make sure the little woman is happy first. As far as my personal goals...

all that worries me is which of the two would be better location fishing wise. From what I have read the bigger blues would be later in the year, but I could have a good chance at blacks since both are S. Pacific. As far as GT's or Dogtooth between the two?

Would appreciate any info that y'all can offer.

No experience with any .... yet, but Fiji is on the radar for a fishing trip in the near future. The other two aren't even being considered for anything other that if I were going on my honeymoon☺

Did meet some Auzzies the other day in Thailand though that go to Bora Bora almost every year as a group. Of course that looked to be purely a pub crawl trip for them.

Dont know what your budget is however i can fully recommend fiji.

Some really nice smaller resorts and great fishing. August is trade wind time however they are lighter in august than in june july (in my opinion) however when they do set in they will set in for 5 or so days until they pass.

August is also prime wahoo season. Great time to be chasing them on 20lb test or lighter. They run in big wolf packs at this time avg size about 50 lb with heaps bigger.

Black marlin are about the seamounts and larger reefs however getting out to them if the wind is blowing may be an issue. Blue marlin are ever present just like hawaii.

IF you want the full honey moon experience go to qamea resort on the island of tavenui fiji. A very special place where you are looked after. You can hire one of there boats quite easily to fish or you can negotiate with a local which will be cheaper. The locals don't have gps or sounders. They have all the fish finding ability programed into their brains. they know where the fish/structure etc are.

other than that matava resort is a great place to stay at kadavu island. Adrian has had heaps of exposure in fishing publications and forums and knows his stuff. If you want wahoo you will get them. If the weather allows he will get you into blues or blacks as well. Matava is no where as nice a place to stay as qamea but is alot cheaper.

To organise a local to take you and you are staying on the mainland or you are in a small town for a moment (ie at qamea and going for a waterfall tour) speak to a taxi drivers etc or your the guy that runs the dive trips at your resort. They often have a friend or relative that will take you out for a very good price. At qamea there is a eco resort/ surf resort on another part of the island they could take you fishing for a fraction of what the resort charges.

Take a good overhead set up with 500 meters of 30lb mono or if you don't have that 50lb braid with a big top shot as wahoo strike hard. Also a jig/pop rod with stella and 80lb min braid for trolling deeper divers, popping gt and jig dogtooth. Halco laser pro 190 2 meter are the best wahoo lure in the area though rapala xraps and yozuri etc will also do well (change all your hooks and trebles and bring some wire). Poppers and a few knife jigs of around 200-300 grams though good luck to getting a doggy to the boat. they are hardcore.

I only ask as general info for those of us unecumbered by honeymoon duties? BUT, when I do get married I hope I get to have the same concerns on my trip. I can see the conversation now: "Honey we need to have a December wedding, because I really want to fish Ascension Island this year"☺. "Oh yeah honey, there's loads to do there besides fish"☺. Better video tape that one.

Yeah, for some reason my future wife didn't think Pacific Panama was good enough for a honeymoon. On top of that, the Azores got shot down as well.

Who does she think she is?


Of course, she doesn't know why I really X'ed Greece of the list in about a millisecond.
