Least you remembered all of those Matador...
tangle problem solved. the third squid has done the trick. we have slung it over the side, picked it up and thrown it over, left it dangling, everything------ no problem. goes in straight as an arrow. i am stoked. bradon wants it to stay on the boat![]()
That dredge with the 3 squids is $exy...Did you ever build one of those up in your checkerboard pattern and try it out like you mentioned?
I'd be curious to know which squid is bringing the most fish up on the dredge so far in the colors that you've tried?
I know that I've caught some fish off the checker and my buddy in Stuart is stoked with them.
I am still a little bias though and would probably have to go with the electric blue after seeing a Blue absolutely devour a teaser chain in Ven. I'm pretty sure that I told you about that on the phone when I was placing my buddies order for the checkerboards...came up hotter than hell and shampooed us, all head and shoulders right from the start. Almost broke the rigger off and bent the teaser rod holder sideways before getting a knife to cut her off. WILD! Saw her greyhounding a few minutes later after making a turn and the chain was still in tow. Definitely the hottest one I've seen.
love this one.
How was the research with the dredges?
In Cancun we use dredges religiously and we have been using absolutely everything we can get our hands on to make them and avoid rigging ballys or mullet everyday.
Q. Did it get too heavy when trolling?
Looking at the shape of the squids and size I believe there is a lot of water resistance during the troll.
Q. Did the dredge fold?
We lost a few dredges as we trolled with the downrigger and cables snapping.
We have been using a specific style of squid in daisy chains and bars. The tip is to rig a live cigar minnow at the end and the vibration makes the squids come alive especially when there is a lot of bait in the area and we have to troll very slow for sails.
The bottom ones.
