Shortfin, all the baits I saw rigged were done by simply using the floss. They really cinch down the floss across the baits forehead (in between the eyes) and then slip the circle under the floss. it was very tight and it took me a minute to get it under. if you look and the last picture of my original post you can see that by having the floss very tight it will hold the circle hook perfectly upright and it will not fall off to one side or the other. one other thing- they really cut down the bills of the ballyhoo- if a bait did not swim perfectly they reeled it in and cut more of the bill off- then the bait was put out and it swam just right. I hope this helps
Also I asked them why they dont use crimps or snell and the captain on this boat said it was time and money- too expensive to crimp everything and too much time to snell .on the second boat I was on everything was snelled. it was a nicer boat. I think we had a little better hook up ratio with the snelled.
Good Pics. I snell our hooks for the 8/0 but crimp my Marlin pitch. Everyone is different. I trim down my bills a good bit more than in your pics. More like in Bills. Too long of a bill makes them want to dig in too much. Some of the mates get a little fast rigging. It is best to take your time and not make it too tight on the head and too get your X straight. Makes for a nicers swimming bait. I use wire myself but thats just because I hate tying those little knots. That's just my 2 cents. Good job and good luck.
