    Costa Rica Recommendations

I am planning a combination fishing and family vacation to Costa Rica and would love some recommendations on where to stay, what to do and who to charter. Trip would be in early January 2012 for at least a week. I am thinking two days of billfishing and one day of rooster/bottom fishing. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Do you have an idea what part of the country you are planning to go to? I have fished in quite a few different locations. The last 2 years we have been down to Puerto Jiminez and fished out of Golfo Dulce. Last year we fished with Bobby Macguinness from Golfito. That end of the country is a little rustic so far as family vacations but still a lot to do if they like nature tours zip lines and such. We liked that little town so much we are going back again next January. If I was carrying family I would probably look into staying in Manuel Antonio and fishing out of Quepos. When we went there we stayed at La Mariposa which was a nice hotel between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. A friend of mine just got back from Manuel Antonio in June and he stayed at a nice 4 star hotel but the rooms are pricey. Quepos and Manuel antonio both offer a lot of activities like parasailing, horseback riding on the beach, zip lines 4 wheeler tours and such. It also has a lot of good places to eat. I think we may have some members here who have charters in Quepos. Los Suenos further up the coast is a really nice Marriott resort with a golf course. If you go up there I would fish with Howard Lynch(a member here) on the tunabite. Jaco is a beach town next to Los Suenos with plenty of shops and resturants but can get seedy at night.

I'll second everything Robja said and add that my family loves the Osa, but if your girl needs AC then you should go up north.

    Liltuna n' Costa Rica

Lots of other stuff to do down there other that fishing too, it's just very rural still. Some way cool folk down at Matapalo.

Stayincostarica.com is your best bet. They support SFC and they provide a one stop shop TOP NOTCH service in Los Suenos.

Los Suenos is as good as it gets as far as lodging, food, safety, fishing, daytime and night time activites. You'll think you've died and gone to heaven.

I was there in April and had some great fishing on the Sunny One. The crew was accommodating as can be and were great fishermen.

Tell them SFC sent you and you will not be disappointed one bit.

    Recommendations

Thanks to all for your inputs so far. I am still in the planning stages but have narrowed things down. I have booked flights for 7-14 JAN 2012 to Costa Rica (SJO) and decided to leave the kids behind (they don't know it yet). I am leaning towards the Quepos area to stay and fish. There are so many packages that it gets confusing. My plan is to fish 2 days offshore and one day inshore while there for the week. I am looking for any recommendations on top notch boats/crews out of Quepos and any places to stay and other things to do. I am not opposed to booking a package or doing it ala carte on my own. Any help and guidance is much appreciated.

PS - There will just be two of us so if anyone is going to be in Costa Rica the same time and wants to share a charter I would be open to the idea. PM me...

    Thanks,
    Will

Check out www.tropicalfishing.com/costarica.html for info about fishing throughout Costa Rica including Quepos.
I can arrange everything you need in Costa Rica including hotel, boats, local transfers etc. I get a commission from boats and hotels, but the price that you pay is the same price that you would pay if you book direct, but I can steer you to in the right direction as far as the type of hotel you would like and the boat that would suit you best.

I have made two trips to Los Suenos set up by Capt. George Beckwith @ www.pamlicoguide.com

The fishing and accommodations are great. Plus, George and his wife Anna will work hard to make your Costa Rican fishing experience memorable.

Give them a call, you will be glad you did.
