If it's a chunk of fish I would start at the end of the chunk going inside of the meat and coming out through the skin. With a c-hook you want to make sure there isn't so much meat inside of the bend as to impede the hook from going around the jaw. Don't put the hook through anything hard. You want whatever is on the hook to be able to get squished off. After hooking your bait hold it up in the air by the line above it and let it hang. Your bait should not fill the bend of the hook past the barb and I would even say no more than half way up to the barb in this position. Hope this helps.

Yep, that sounds like the deal there. I think the main thing is to make sure there's nothing solid to impede the hook from catching in the corner of the jaw and rotating, so as long as you hook the chunks through the soft parts then you should be fine.

There are some thoughts about how much you "hide" the hook in the chunks that you may have to play with--I've had a lot better luck with a fairly exposed hook (rather than trying to totally hide it in the bait) once we switched to all circles but I think it also depends on how hot the bite's going as much as anything else.

    Hope this helps...
