    Austin,

Just my opinion here. But considering you are a young guy that is trying to learn the mate game.

I would strongly recomend not learning this rig............................................. There are much cleaner and easier ways to rig a circle...

    Again, Just my 2C

I am going to guess the Hook-Up Ratio on this rig will be in the 10-15% range if you have experienced anglers on the boat !! Good Luck !!

fishing is all theorys and mine doesnt agree with this or any pin rigs when billfish are a possibility. As a fish holds the bait in its mouth, it will let the bait go if he feals any sharp objects and no matter what he isnt coming back if already stuck by something, the only thing sharp on my baits is the hook, NO PINS anytime, just my little bit of a theory

If anyone wants to Field Test this Circle Pin Rig, PM me and I will send you a few to try. There are few ways it can be used.
The PIN can be cut to length, or bent over for that matter.
Just another tool for the arsenal.

so if a billfish tried to eat a sharp spined bait they would immediately drop it if it felt the spines?

Bingo! - I think most fish are missed not because the fish went away or "got stung" but more so because the baitfish didn't die and flutter towards the bottom.

Think about. marlin comes up on a bally and then mouths it or slashes it etc. the last 99 times he did this he cut it in half or killed it. Now 1/2 a ballyhoo is swimming away at 6 knots. Something ain't right toto.

So most guys just free spool but got their thumb on the spool. if you are freespooling with your thumb on the spool your bait probably just went from 6 knots to 2 knots but still swiming and the captain is probably still going forward. freespool and turn and sink that bait and make it act dead.

The "got stung" theory doesn't hold water for me, especially with blue marlin. geez, if a blue marlin didn't eat everytime it got stung we would be chasing a bunch of blue marlin that look like ghandi.

    Just my 2 cents

Now this is the complete RIGHT theory!! and really not a theory at all.. The baits need to run back and sink!!!!!!

There is no thumb and there is no drag!! just let it go.. i like squid said turn and sink.. sometime i will stop the boat and let em drop... give them some time and set my ballys in freespool and try to get a bite!! if not and the fish is still swimming i will come about and bring it up to speed slowly and have a few baits sinking and a few swimming.. sometimes i see it will bring a fish into the spread again if he doesnt eat the sinkers!
