I ran the hook in the gills and out of the belly just like a J hook, just a little forward. Had fish on a sea witch, small wide ranger and also a spring rig naked. All hooked in the corner. We did not drop back. It wasn't necessary. Trolled around 5 Kts. Set the drag around 5 lbs. Don't know if the drag mattered.

I doubt it will work for one reason. The circle hooks needs to be able to swing in order to find the corner of the mouth. They was that is rigged it doesn't allow the hook free movement.

This is kind of a mess. Watch some of the videos on the site there are much cleaner ways to do this just as easy.
