what circle hooks do most people perfer for white marlin, the past 2 seasons i have used the eagle claw 8/0 with a pretty good hookup ratio but dont like them due to the fact that they rust out and you cant reuse them. doe anyone else use circle hooks other than eagle claw that are tornament legal? any feedback would be great, thanks.
Either the eagle claws 8/0 or the owner 6/0. I personally prefer tthe owner's in the mid atlantic, only because I can lock up the drag on a tuna or dolphin and not worry about the hook breaking or bending. Hook up percentages are the same. When I actually had a job in C.R. (yes I actually fished a good bit here before) I would use the eagle claw 9/0's. They are a little heavier then the 8's but too big IMO for the typical whitey in the mid atlantic.
As mentioned earlier the hooks need to be changed out, sometimes mid-day if your not getting any bites. Seems the EC's get brittle and the tips can break off and the owners points seem to erode away as a circle hooks point is being pulled through the water at an angle in which the water force will erode the point right off. So whatever brand you use the tips must be checked while changing the hoo's.
