Earthquake = slow fishing?.................. It sound like a good excuse but I doubt it.
Then why don't you do us both a favor...walk down to the Tijereta, ask Bubba and the boat's owners who are in town fishing this week why they're going to Los Roques and then get back to me. I can save you the trip though, it's because they were one for three on white marlin on Monday and one for one on blue marlin yesterday--the only fish they saw all day. They came there to fish--if it was on fire right now they would be staying put. Better hurry though cause they're leaving this morning as soon as they get fuel, which yes, is also a problem--they couldn't get fuel yesterday because the truck didn't show up.

Now maybe that has nothing to do with the earthquakes but maybe it does. I have personally seen the fishing go to shit after quakes in Guatemala, Panama and yes, Venezuela so please don't say it's an excuse. Don't forget that I'm talking about the one that happened this past Saturday, so I'm sure the fishing LAST WEEK was fine. That's why my friends went down there!

    I'm done.

AndyAdkins, hope you have a great trip down, good luck!

    many thanks,

i hope i will! I fished kenya january, Mexico April and Venezuala is due for the end of September start of October and then i will probably be spent out for this year! fishing on your own for a week at a time gets bloody expensive after a while!

On our last trip to Golfito - they had a massive undersea quake which killed hundreds of inshore fish. Didn't seem to bother the pelagics further offshore as they seem to sense this and get outta there.

I'm not saying that quakes and volcanoes don't affect fishing, I would just say it's not the primary reason for bad fishing. Look towards purse seiners, bottom draggers and longliners first.
