Big Game Mag, Capt Archer artical
Just received the May/June Big Game Fishing Journal http://www.biggamefishingjournal.com/ We have been privileged to view much of what Fred has to say here on this thread. It is a good read.
I have successfully been using circles with lures like the small islanders, but have had limited success with the big hard headed plastic. I believe the bigger plastics actually open the fishes mouth, and the c hook is also pulled free without catching anywhere. I will be rigging all the soft stuff with circles this year. Fred, thanks again for all your input. |

Thank you, Cappy Carl. Exactamente on the big lures propping marlin mouths open and impairing hookups, big time! I happen to believe that's why a lot of fishermen run big, bridled live or dead baits when the marlin are on the bigger stuff, BUT, THE ANSWER TO LOUSY HOOKUP RATIOS AND TOO MANY LOST FISH THAT DO GET HOOKED UP ON LURES IS IN THE MARLIN BOOK THAT YOU HAVE!!!
I ain't sayin' what it is here, except to say, "Squish!", ya know? Shhhhhh! How did the pictures in the article come out? I haven't seen it yet. Man, I love writing for the mags...they appreciate what they get, I don't get any turds hurled at me, and they even pay me princely sums for both the writing and the photos and art, stuff that I give away free here, where I get some nice thanks (thank you), but some other stuff that ain't fun, too. Ah, well, this is still the best damned Internet site, with the best damned fishermen and new ones too on the web. It's too much like home, right down to the ones who remind me of my ex-wife, Atilla The C...uh, I better say "Character", yeah, "Atilla The Character", but just like her, no matter what you call her. Man, that woman was a pain-in-the-ass! But the kids and the dogs and the neighbors were great. That's just life, I guess. 100% hookup and landing ratios on marlin? No prob! But no prayer on one of those things down below. Mexico Lindo Querido |
