Buena Vista Sportfishing - Thank You

The last couple of months I have visited this great place 3 times and look forward to another visit. Although the fishing was subpar by Guatemalan standards I still kept coming back to this place that became like a second home to me and some of my buddies that kept returning as well. I started to realize that part of the allure of this place is the staff of Buena Vista. These folks treat us like family. I have never felt so welcome by a resort anywhere.

On my last day at the lodge I asked a few of the staff if they would like to join me on a trip. Dyana, Roxanna and Azcucena jumped at the opportunity. I asked them what they wanted to catch. They all said they wanted food for their famalies. So meat trip it was. We started out Pargo fishing which resulted in a single pargo. When then trolled out to some longline pots and found the bailers. Well, these girls where in heaven. The cool thing about it is that none of them have been out much but they showed no fear and jumped in the blood and slime of bailing and had a blast.

Azsucena getting ready to wire her first dolphin

Dyana - doing battle

Marciel and Chente taking care of a double

Hey - sometimes taking pictures has its perks

The girls took over When we did get a sail come up inbetween bailing. Dyana hopped on the rod and I was going to wiring the fish. Joking I passed the gloves to suza and she smiled, put em on and said No problem! Damn - my kinda girl

Chente took over so the girls could line up for a pic

Then Dyana threw us all for a look when she put the rod down and jumped in

The sail started swimming off but she wouldn't let go

That smile stuck with her for the rest of the trip. She said it was the coolest thing she has ever experienced

Back to meat fishing

Roxanna with a nice dolphin

We found some deeper structure near where Marciels buddies were fishing. We stopped to bottom fish for a while and brought up some nice triggers and a couple groupers

Very nice report and gesture Bill. The girls look very happy. Guatemala is a special place and not only because of the fishing.

Nick what kind of grouper is that. We caught two. We also caught one with bright yellow fins. Marciel said he never caught one like that before with yellow fins. On another note - they said they never ate the triggers because they are ugly. Man - they are missing some gooood meat. All these fish were caught with cut squid. I could only imagine what some jigs or livies would do to that bottom.

Not sure Bill. I would say spotted cabria. Looks like an Atlantic snowy grouper. I need to get me another guide to pacific fishes. My last one I gifted to Brigitte the Swiss cook and restaurant owner in Monte Rico Guate several years ago. Girl can cook!
