I think thats it.... I learned to tie a plait when I was about 7 and only learned a bimini when I was about 17. I think all the kiwi's like it cause of minimal amounts of issues we have with the the plait so why change?

I can't tie one in 3 min's but it doesn't take that much longer.

If your not busy fishing every day try this

Tie an Aussie Braid in one end of a piece of 100lb Sufix (or whatever) and tie a nice Bimini twist in the other end. Put one loop over a rod holder on the tower leg and the other on your mop handle and tell me which one breaks first. Every time I've tried it the Aussie breaks in the knot and the Bimini holds.
The Bimini is 100% if tied correctly and the Aussie always breaks in the knot. Finish the Bimini with floss instead of half hitches and eliminate the "bump"

I use a double line to provide a 100% connection to the leader. If the Aussie Braid breaks in the knot and the Bimini breaks in the line above the knot, which one is 100%?
Why go to the trouble to tie the braid when the bimini consistently tests stronger and ties much easier? Try it.
Maybe I'm not tying the Braid properly.........

    My opinion

O.K. I admit, it's been a while since I've competed in tournament fishing. Soooo back in the day, I used both. My preference for heavy tackle (80 lb and up) is the braid, lighter tackle the bimini. With heavy string I've had better luck with the braid going through the guides. Plus, if you want a long double line (10' - 15') it is much easier for me to braid the line because it does not require tension on the loop to tie. I will confess that I have tested both, and the bimini seems to be stronger in all weight classes, but I have never had a braid fail, so I use it when it is appropriate.

A tight bimini has no give. a loose bimini has some stretch.

Well thats good news to me.... I cant manage to get it tight on anything over 20 lb test.

I have been using the Australian Braid for all my loop to loop connections as I feel I tie it better then the bimini

    Aussie

If your aussie is breaking it's probably slipping first...maybe not braided tight enough at the top...or correctly finished....?
