Soft in theory should be more natural to a fish but we have had a load hold the hard like a toy too. The drawbacks to soft is that they flex and distort at trolling speed and I can't get 100% of the action and noise I am looking for...
A second problem was finding the right gap even with J hooks... The broad head on it needed a fairly big gap. Then we solved the gap/ white issue when owner came out with an 11/0 but with light wire. We found that light wire though scarry was even good on blues if we came down just two pounds on the drag...
When we switched to that hook the white count went way up... Just knowing how many money class whites we had missed due to the bigger hooks had my butt puckered, thinking back. For me it sucked to finally tune that bait to a hook then have the hook go illegal sucked. I think I'm back on the right track though with the Z...
