Baitrunners with C hooks

Been fishing with circles down the bahamas this past winter on conventional gear, I've been using circles with my TLD's up here and have had great percentages thus far and am now considering to try them on my bait runners, question is this, how do I tell my anglers how to "slowly come tight"?
Or should I save them with pitch baits for the dolphin blitz on the balls, debris or weed lines?

With inexperienced anglers it may be a problem. With someone familiar with adding pressure using fingertips on the spool it's not hard.

Leave the reel in freespool and before locking up apply pressure to the spool with your fingers by wrtapping them around the bottom of the spool. When you are tight engage the reel but keep the tip low till drag peels for a couple more seconds. Also remember, set your drag light.

thanks for advice, its what i thought as well, worked perfect saturday, 3 for 3 on whites, 18 dolphin to 30lbs, all but one dolphin in the corner of the jaw even a with two junior anglers. we'll see next week

Baitrunners are great since you have the two different preset drag settings. With inexperienced anglers you just have to couch them to only reel when they are gaining line, otherwise they are just putting a twist into it with ever turn of the handle.

I don't use the bait runner function on my own reels... Instead I wrap monel on the reel foot and bend into a hook of sorts. I leave the bail open with the line hanging on the hook and when a fish bites it pulls easily off that wire and is free dropping with no resistance. I tell my guys to point down at the water, manually close the bail, let come tight and just crank...
