    Any Billfish Off California?

I'm new to all this and have never caught anything larger than a rockfish. That being said, I'm turning 50 this fall and would like nothing more than to catch (and release) some type of billfish. I live in Central California and due to family reasons (I have two little girls and my wife really doesn't want me to go) I can't get down to Cabo. I've heard there is some fishing out of Balboa or San Diego. Does anyone know if this would even be worth my time? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Show up around the middle of September, there was a pretty good snap on the striped marlin at Catalina Islands west end
last year. Most years it can be pretty good,it is all about location.

There are not many boats that specialize in marlin charters here in so. cal.but you should be able to find something.
