Abaco, Boat Harbour report

Well, we just got back from a week of fishing in Boat Harbour, and the billfish action was decent. The dolphins were thick enough to walk on. We were gettin covered up all day. Didnt matter if you even had a bait on the hook. Not a joke. Prather got bit on a bare circle hook by making it pop and slappin it on the surface. And, if you got bored catchin em we just went to free-gaffing them. Our tally for the week was 1 for 2 on Blue marlin, 5 for 6 on whites and 3 for 6 on sails and 100,000,000 dolphin. As an added bonus we had a 150lb mako eat a hawaiian eye dredge, pull 50 feet of 400lb off the dredge while it was locked up, and then chase it back into the spread when it finally spit it out. I thought we were in trouble when I watched the dredge go outboard of the squid chain, come to the surface and try to pass the boat before we got it away from him. The old man got the 50 pitch to him right before he decided to tear the dredge up again, and we got the release in about 20 minutes. Prather also caught a wahoo on a shimano butterfly jig off a pallet we found floating. Is there anything that wont eat a butterfly jig? All in all it was a great week of fishing. Next stop is Charleston the first of June.

Nice report, that place was hard to leave last year but it sounds like the fishing is a lot better than it was in May 2008

Glad to hear you had a good week in the Bahamas Jon. Hope you didn't loose too many Hawaiian eyes to the mako.
