I don't care if you call your 500 pounder Tu-Tu if you let her swim. If you want to wack one to eat....GREAT.....gaff em up. BUT G-DAM. How hungry are you? How do you keep the meat fresh on a Grander laying on deck? It would take 2000 pounds of ice to cool her down like you would any other fish you treated properly for consumption.
I'm sorry if your johnson is so short you have to take her picture from a rope on a crane....or dispute another Captain's guesstimate of a true trophy that live to breed another day. GET a penis pump and release the next one.
If there was money on the line....I'm killing the fish without thinking twice. If I am hungry...a white, sail, blue.....makes no nevermind...I have no problem wacking one. Matter of fact....next white Marlin I catch is getting gaffed.
If you are gonna kill one though just to prove it's a grander....I question your judgement to say the least.
If the meat gets wasted you should be ashamed you killed her....not proud you caught her.

    950

I always understood a likely grander to be released was called in at 950, even if it clearly might have weighed well over a grand. I disagree with calling any fish a grander if it was not weighed, and I have no problem with giving a team grander size credit for releasing a '950'. They should be given the kudo's for not over estimating their catch and not needing the ego boost of calling a grander when it just might not have been. Not only that but nobody will argue with a 950, but call in a grander released and you will be doubted.

If you open the door to calling granders then you will have all types of wanna-be's calling anything much over 700 a grander.

Someone once said to me "if you don't weigh it, don't say it"

A grander weighs 1000lbs or more. A released Blue Marlin is a really nice fish. No disrespect intended.

It always amazes me how many 500 pounders get released, but when it is a tourney with a 500 min- all week long and only 3 get killed.....

I don't agree with killing just for the sake of killing, but I do agree with Squiddy Bill- for it to be a grander it has to be hanging with 4 digits showing on the scale.

EIther way, great catch for the crew.
