4 day report from OC

Well we had a great time getting frustrated this weekend. Started out Thursday and went on an afternoon hambone trip and got covered up 1 time with a quad of two bluefish and two bluefins and that was it.

friday we went to the 500 line south of the poormans and kept heading out to 700fathoms where we finally found the scum line. we had a double header white and MoverII hooked his on b/w ilander and I missed mine on the circle hook chugger. Cleared lines while he was windshield wiping and the fish slashed through the leader oops!. caught a handful of gaffers up to 27lbs.

Yesterday we tried the hambone for a bluefin but couldn't escape the bluefish So we picked up and went to the wilmington. Dave Sikorski had a blue marlin come on the right long and crunched to pink ilander. fish slashed the lite leader before the fun began. The wind picked up and we couldn't really get up to speed so we deployed the high speed trolling spread. Had 2 wide ranges and to hawaiian lures out. I decided to put a mini chugger with a small ballyhoo/circle hook on the flatline. sure as shit the 55lb yellowfin ate the little bait on the tld doing 10.5 knots. WHO KNEW!. Sikorski sunk the steel and we headed home in the slop.

today went out with Capt Al and caught a limit of tog for the dinner table.

Tuna Mode bert. It was the small boat tournament and there was no marlin category. But we still had a couple dinks on circles just in case we had an encounter. We had j-hooks on the ilanders, GM's and Spreader bars and circles on the nakeds and chuggers. We also ran a couple witches on circles on friday with good results on the dolphin.

Had fun yesterday! We won a wopping $314.50 in the Small Boat Tournament! Should just a bout pay for all the stuff I lost this weekend, two anchors, about 200' of anchor line. and about 50#s of sinkers! Did I forget anything?

That blue one is gonna haunt me for quite a while.

The tuna bite was great, and the fact that he was on the mini chugger w/ the circle made it better. That little circle was set perfectly in the corner of is mouth.

Thanks for a good day on the water Bill.
