A-FIN-ITY MAKES A MOVE TO THE TOP

Fishing improved on Day Two of the Presidential Challenge of Costa Rica. The morning bite produced a good number of sailfish along with blue and striped marlin. The 2007 defending PCCA Grand Champion Team, A-Fin-Ity,fishing aboard the Permit III with the '07 top Captain, Chepe Santana, jumped to the top of the leader board by releasing eight sailfish early in the day. Team Decisive, fishing aboard the Gamefisher II with Capt. Junior Bustas, had a good sailfish day and was able to hold on to a tie for first place. Desperado released a blue marlin which bumped them right up to third. The big excitement of the day came from the Wet Ass II - Capt. Sea Angel Victorious in Close Finish

    Cleyner Ruiz Tops Angler Field

Day Three of the PCCA Costa Rica got off to good start when Gallo Pinto called in a striped marlin release at 8:25am. They followed that catch up with a sail release a few minutes later. The first hour produced only four fish but A-Fin-Ity kicked off the 9am hour by jumping back into the lead with a sail release. Decisive called in a sail a few minutes later to tie for the lead. This exchange went on for an hour as the lead changed between these teams.
At 9:09am Sea Angel called in a sailfish. A few minutes later they called in a double header – sailfish and striped marlin. This feat was accomplished without the boat having steering! Capt. ‘BC’ did a remarkable job of maneuvering the boat to get the releases. They didn’t stop with the double – they continued to fish and released another striped marlin and a sail!
Let It Ride took sixteen minutes to call in three individual sails. At 11:45 and Noon Let It Ride called in two more sails. Sea Angel edged them on time and moved into third place at the Noon Standings. Now it was a battle between Sea Angel and A-Fin-Ity for the second and third spot.
The afternoon action slowed down but Sea Angel kept up the pace. It all broke loose at 2pm when Let It Ride hit the Mother Lode. For the remainder of the fishing hours Sea Angel, Let It Ride and Decisive battled it out for the top spot. The excitement peaked at 3pm with only half hour left to fish. Tension mounted with each call on the radio. At 3:22pm Decisive released a sail to tie Sea Angel and secure second place. Sea Angel was 38 miles from Playa Carrillo with no steering and a 6pm deadline to return to the Anchorage. At 5:45pm they blew around the corner, horn honking in victory! It was an exciting ending to a fun packed week in Costa Rica.

    THANK YOU!

Kudos to Baptist Health International for hosting the lovely cocktail party at Villas Playa Samara last night. Thank you for your loyal support of our events and to billfish conservation.
