trolling rod question
ok so maybe it is more of a series of questions.
My brother just got 3 calstar Graphiters or grafiters whichever it is. 2 are 7460L and the other is a 7460M. I have many questions about these and the best way to set them up. Number 1 would they make good trolling rods? I believe the L is a 30-80 blank and the M is a 40-100. 2. The blanks themselves are 6ft. This just seems to be a little bit too long for what we need especially once you put the butts on them. We are looking at putting aftco curved uni-butts on them. 3. Can you just these rods down from the tip or just from the butt section. 4. What size uni-butt and ferrule would we need to buy. 5. What kind of guides would you guys reccomend putting on a trolling rod. They will be conventional as I do not like working with roller guides. A little background. If decent trolling set ups they will be used mainly for meatfish; Tuna, dolphin, and wahoo. I will not be going offshore to mainly target marlin of any size or type. But wouldn't intentionally push one out of the spread if one appeared. I will not be building these rods a local rod builder/friend will be building these for me but he has never done any offshore trolling rods before. Especially one that has uni-butts on them. So any and all information that you can supply on this will be greatly appreciated. |

use a #2 uni or stora butt
you could use Aftco roller or Fuji Sic ring guides most would use rollers on the M cut the blanks from the butt to get OAL when on uni |

Thanks paul. Where would be the best place to order the equipment from? Is Mudhole ok? I think that is where my buddy generally orders from.
