Swivel roller tip on 80# rod?
Is there any reason I shouldn't put one on for regular fishing? I've only seen them on wire line and kite rods. My thought is that it will provide a lot more forgiveness when someone(less experienced) is slow to follow a fish while fighting standing up. I 've lost some at the boat b/c of this.

I'd be more worried about the "inexperienced" angler doing the pump and drop routine and having slack line wrap around the swivel arm that sticks out beyond the roller tip. Of course you could take off the guide arm I recon.---- seems kinda goofy to me though--- but no doubt it would crank in a fish.

I would go with AFTCO over Batson. Have seen a few Batson's need replaements. The head on the AFTCO pivots 120 degrees allowing for more side to side movement. Have seen a few Batson twisted due to less than 120 degree movement.

I have also had bad experiences with the Batson swivels. They are abore 1/4 of the price but they have a lot of engineering to do to fix the problems. We don't use them anymore. Stay with Aftco.

yeah, as much as i like batson. i try to build with AFTCO swivel tips
some guys dont realize the "quality" AFTCO may cost more but is price or quality your goal when you see things like "aluminun reelseats" or swivel tip you are NOT usually getting AFTCO, if you dont see aftco in the writeup of the rods the quality and price is usually cheaper |

If I remove the ring guide will I have to get a different bearing screw(standard/shorter) due to the lack of steel being sandwiched? I am worried about my 100# double line not clearing that ring. I was also worried that by removing it, the swiveling ability might be impaired since the line seems to lever on the ring, causing the head to swivel.
Thanks for the good news and the replies everyone! ![]()
