Fantastic Kids Trolling Rod From FinRazorRods
Guys,
Shameless Plug from a Happy Customer. My boys (ages 9 and 10) are complete fishing maniacs. We spend a lot of time up here catching stripers and bluefish with tube and worm. For a few years my little guys used my standard wireline rods. But they always struggled. I got in touch with Michael Hall at Finrazor Rods and told him what I was looking for. My boys are more effective fighting fish with their spinning gear. The rods are more forgiving. But I needed a rod with enough backbone to troll wire. But the main struggle they have is with the standard length of the butt in trolling rods. Standard butts place the reel up in the kids faces. Not really the most effective place to pull from. Michael came up with a butt that was two inches shorter than standard and a blank that had backbone down low, but was more flexable up top. This set up made the whole thing much more comfortable for my boys. (Wireline guides are a must for me, but this rod doesn't need to have them if you don't fish wire) Here is a pic that really shows what I mean. This is my 9 year old pulling on a 10 pound bluefish. Mike P.S. BTW, Michael did this for not much more $$$ than an off the shelf wireline rod... |

More info:
These rods are only 5 feet long, instead of the 6 footers I use. They are rated up to 40 pound line (though I am sure they can handle more). I plan on taking off the wire line reels and slapping some TLD 25 on there and chasing tuna with these as well as stripers... Mike Last edited by Parapapam; 07-23-2008 at 05:35 PM. |

That sounds like something my brothers and I might use. I have two younger brothers that are 8 and 11, and I'm soon to be 14. Sometimes it's hard for us to use the longer butts when fighting bigger fish. I'll definately show these to my dad! Thanks for posting up!
