Avet and Pac Bay??
I just got a couple of Avet Pro ex 4/0 wides to mount on Chaos ECL 50-100 rods. The rods use Pac Bay aluminum butts. When i tighten down the collars the threads stop before it gets tight on the reel. Anyone ever have this happen with avet? My TLDs fit perfect....
Thanks |

I had it happen too -- the reel seats on those avets are really short and alot of rods won't tighten down on them. I think this is one of the reasons they discontinued the exw's and came out with the 30w.
I called Avet to see if they made a larger seat (I'm sure I wasn't the only one having the problem). To their credit, I got one of the owners on the phone, that said, the guy told me there was nothing they could do, the reels were fine, and I should buy new rods. My response was something along the lines of penn wouldn't say that -- he freaked and after he hit me with some choice profanity (and I shot back) hung up on me. Now that I ranted - here's how I solved it. I built up the reel seats with some soft lead sheets cut to fit -- roof flashing. They held in place very well - this will cause electrolysis in the long term, so it's really only a temporary fix. Long term fix -- selling all my Avet stuff and upgrading to Fin-nor's. Hope that helped. -Jay

Buy American
No wonder the reel seats don't match the butts..PacBay made in..China? India? HongKong..who knows..I doubt Avet sent the schematics to one of those plants for compliance..sounds more like an Avet problem tho..my thought is buy American..keep the $$$ here.

Well, you are right its the reel. Avet says they fixed the problem with the new 30 wide. The lady at avet said they ran of a bunch of corrected rod mounts but are sold out of them.
I did find a part on Pac Bays site called a winding check,,, can i use this like a spacer or is it threaded ? Thanks |

Problem Solved! I called Avet and told them the problem. They had me send back the reel and put on a new bigger rod mount. All for free, and they even gave me an extra rod mount in the box. Im pretty happy with Avet right now! hanks for the help.
