I don't know which blank to get!!! I'm still stuck on either building on the 700M or 700MH (25-60lb class rod) blank, but can't decide
The 700M is 10oz lighter which sounds appealing and I do know some folks that fish their rods at the top of the line rating (i.e. 20-50lb class rod...using 50lb test line) which would make for a better fight (more bend in the rod)... I'm assuming. I'm swaying towards the 700M since I wanted a 700H (30-80lb class rod) for my Accurate 665H 2spd reel.... and I would rather have the 2 Calstar conventional rods in my collection to cover as wide of a spectrum as possible. Still, it's a tough choice I'm not 100% on yet. Brian

So, now I'm looking at the 765XL along with the 700M as well as custom cut 700M blanks! lol... I love custom rods!

I don't remember. There were too many rods I was putting my paws on.
But looking at the rating, I'd rather stick with something in the 20-50lb class range. A solid 40# stick that can throw iron, bait, jig, etc... I know it's going to be a 765XL or 700M ...

I ended up going with a 700M blank cut 1/2" off the tip (thank Capt. Richie

Brian, I just saw your post. I call Ca;star every monday and order approx 12 blanks. It's always a mixture. I usually order what I need for Custom orders with a few extra EGlass XH, XXh as most of my rods are unibutt type. I always have GF700xh, or H. I have little request for the lighter stuff. I'm not looking at the numbers but the MH is just slightly heavier than the M, They flex nearly the same, I suspect there is an additional flag wrap in the base end. I speak to Leon Todd, the owner about every two weeks, This cat's got it togethr. A word of caution! If your graphiter breaks, they do not replace it without a handling charge, approx $60. I got my first XH back this year, guy says it happened on a fish, I have a total replace ment charge for about $75-90.
There is a man, Adam Scherier, lives down Barnegate, owns a marina, a Real Fisherman. He jsut picked up 5 rods for Stripers and one in the mix is a GF700M, I'm sure I'll get the report soon. |
