You know what I'm not. I made an observation from the photos. Is that illegal?? It just seems like the are not many sportfisherman over there and almost no custom boats. Most seem to be yachts/megayatchts with converted cockpits.

Apparently, Its because most of their marlin fishing over there is based on sight casting a livie to marlin on the surface and less trolling. Therefore the boats are laid out better to fight a fish around the boat (hence the bow rails), as you may be casting and setting a hook from the bow.

Also someone once told me the boats are designed for different sea conditions that they have on the west coast (i think mainly swell).

But what the hell do I know?

Finally not a wise answer. That make sense. I guess a whole different style of fishing requires a different style boat?? Is live baiting allowed in this tournament?

There are plenty of sportfish boats fishing this tournamnet. The yachts/megayachts you see are long range fishing boats that travel the coast from cali to mexico. They are not converted or trash in any way.... new these boats are in the range of 5 to 10 million. and around 2-5 million for an older 10 years plus older boat. Go t day i fish day and you will see plenty of sportfishers

There was a great article in marlin, I think about east Vs west coast style's of sport fishing boats. Its a combination of sea condition and fishing styles. Pick it up, very informative.
